Christmas at the Bowman Household

Some of you may be thinking its wayyy to early for Christmas, but in my household Christmas could not come any sooner! I am one of the most festive people in the world. My Christmas excitement started in July this year when I got fed up of the sun and kept getting "Jingle Bells" stuck in my head...weird I know. Christmas is my absolute favorite time of the year and probably always will be! I couldn't wait to put up the decorations this year!

Our dining room Christmas tree

We have a tradition in my house that has dated back to when we were little, that on every 31st November we would get the Christmas boxes out of the attic and put up the decorations! It's always been on this date so that all the decorations would be up and ready for the 1st of December. My great grandma's birthday was on the 1st of December as well so especially when we was younger we didn't want to be worrying about the decorations on her big day. As were all getting older its hard in my house to catch a time when were all in the house at the same time. Therefore this year we had to check all of our work rotas to find a day we are all off work, which was the Saturday 23rd. It's really early for us to put the decorations up but it gives off such a different vibe to the house. Lots of twinkly lights, warm smells and festive cheer scattered around everywhere. So I thought it was worthy of a blog, showing you how we celebrate for Christmas and show you some of my all time favorite decorations!

 Lights on!
Lights off!

We're quite lucky to have a big fireplace that we can dress up all Christmassy. It reminds of a traditional fireplace that you see you christmas cards. We're yet to put more lights around that, but we haven't had chance to do that yet. It's so cosy watching the telly with the lights down and all the twinkly lights on. It's so relaxing and pretty! We have quite a large Christmas tree as well as we have that many tree decorations to put on it. We've never had a real tree before as they tend to make a lot of mess which is alot of hassle to clean, especially when you have pets to clean up after. Talking of pets, my cat Garfield loves to climb up the tree and sit in it, but we have to watch him...he's that heavy that he breaks the branches! We had to buy a new tree last year as he broke the last one which we had for years.

Like a Christmas card

So lets talk tree decorations! Our tree is absolutely jam packed with different types of decorations. We don't have many of the traditional baubles as we tend to go for more Christmassy and unique things. We have things from old fashioned strawberrys, the Nativity scene/characters, ice skates, drums and gingerbread men. I've got some here to show of my favourites!

We three kings!

Here we have my moms little gingerbread family. We have mom, dad and baby gingerbread. My mom has an obsession with ginger bread men so Ive collected these for her over the years. I have only recently added the chef gingerbread as a present for my mom which she loved. One of the gingerbread men is special to me as it was made by some very talented ladies from our local church.

My personal favourite tree decoration would be the ice skates. A few years back, I used to go ice skating every single week and it was my absolute favourite hobby. At that time, ice skating accessories were really hard to find. I remember searching all the shops at christmas time in hope to find some things I could put in my bedroom...but it was rare if I could find anything. Over the past two years I have noticed that ice skating has become more popular and shops are selling more novelty accessories. This year I have brought two new ones to add to my ice skate collection. I have a giant white figure skate, and a small blue/silver ice skate. Both of these are adorable and I am considering having them in my room after the festive season.
From Planters Garden Center..cost around £2.99

Lots of glitter! From Marks and Spencers £3

When it's time to put the Christmas decorations up, we rearrange the house a bit to fit new things in. This year we have added two new friends to the living room...A giant reindeer and a snowman. We really liked these when we seen them in Matalan, I think they cost around £15 each but we managed to buy them on offer so they cost a little less. They really fill an empty corner of a festive house so I think they are worth a buy. I can imagine these sitting in a door way to greet your visitors.

Snowman

Not only do we decorate every room on the inside of the house but we also decorate the outside. We still have lights to put outside but currently we have a blow up Santa and a waving Snowman. I love having Christmas lights outside as they really brighten up the dark winter nights. We've always had Christmas lights outside our house from as long as I can remember, and although we are all much older now, we all still love them. I love driving home and seeing them outside to brighten up the drive way. The neighbors really like them too, especially the children in our street.

Christmas greetings

There is alot more I could show you but I'm going to save them for another day and another blog. I hope you've found my Christmas decorations interesting and gives you ideas for your house!

Thanks!
